| Notes | This is a short poem in which the speaker of the poem compares the process of Glasnost to the Russian doll. The speaker of the poem describes the Russian doll in detail, wondering at it, and seems to compare the changing of Russian policies with the little Russian dolls hidden inside the larger. The speaker admits that he doesn't really understand the Russian people, yet he can appreciate the craftsmanship of the dolls. The end of the poem references the 'opening up' of Glasnost - generation after generation opening up, like the dolls themselves. |
