Notes | The speaker of the poem writes glowingly of an encounter he had with an Irishwoman who is an activist on behalf of the children of Chernobyl. The speaker describes this person as a 'saint', and their acts as almost biblical acts of mercy and kindness towards the victims of the Chernobyl nuclear explosion. The speaker doesn't name the activist in the poem, however. It doesn't appear to be Adi Roche, as the activist in this poem is mentioned as being 80 years old. |
