Notes In this short poem, the speaker encourages the young to be anti-colonial and resist the temptation of the colonial style life, which has been presented as normal to them, but in reality, is far from what they are familiar with. The example given here is the colonial style dwelling, drawn in the child's copybook. The speaker encourages the child to draw his 'Likambi', likely a form of ancestral dwelling in Zambia. The speaker encourages recognition of their own culture, as opposed to what has been put upon them by colonial legacy.
