Notes This is a short in which the the speaker of the poem connects William Blake's famous poem 'The Tyger' to the human tiger, Geronimo, who was a prominent leader and medicine man in the Bedonkohe band of the Apache tribe. As a prisoner of the US government in the last 20+ years of his life, he appeared in many travelling shows and world fairs as 'the Tiger of the Human Race', which is where the speaker draws the link between him and William Blake's poem. The speaker of the poem is inspired by Geronimo's spirit and acknowledges his influence on him as a younger man.
