Notes | This poem describes Robert Mugabe's revenge for colonisation in Zimbabwe, and how he is using tigers to attack ex-colonists. It isn't certain if this is based in a real event or if it is an elaborate metaphor relating to the 'tiger economies' of the world. The speaker also seems to imply that these colonists are of Irish descent, based on their liking for drink. There is mention of the poverty in Africa and Asia and how there seems to be no desire to ameliorate the situation, despite the strong 'tiger' economies of the world, including Ireland's. Only animals, according to the poet, appear to have any mercy left. |
