Paratext Text Lisboa 25.4.1974
Notes The Carnation Revolution, also referred to as the 25th of April, was initially a military coup in Lisbon, Portugal, on 25 April 1974 which overthrew the authoritarian regime of the Estado Novo. The song referenced in the poem, which is broadcast on the radio, refers to a real event as part of the Revolution: on 25 April 1974, two pre-selected songs were broadcast on the Portuguese radio station Rádio Renascença as a signal to start the revolution that overthrew the authoritarian government of Marcelo Caetano. This poem commemorates the actions and preparations that led to the outbreak of the Carnation Revolution, so named as it led to little violence and bloodshed.
