The first section appears to deal with the Irish reactions to the Great Famine: i.e. the scrounging, stingy ways that were necessary during the Famine and then became a way of life. The second part of the poem appears to refer to total war, mentioning a disturbance in the Eastern World, while the Irish will be like 'Cearc an Phrompa' (a children's folk tale in which a chicken claims to see the sky falling). There are mentions of a harvest of mushrooms from the sky (nuclear bombs?) and the coming of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse.
