| Notes | Widely anthologised poem. The poet describes how a love affair is looked down upon and criticised in the midst of the slaughter of Vietnam. The persona of the poem disregardds the opinions of others, and continues, with her partner, to celebrate their love, despite the 'sad faces' of the soldiers.
