| Notes | The speaker of the poem gives an account of the remnants and records of the Ustaše genocide in Croatia during World War II - in this case, a teacher's 'evil bible' in a high school. The movement formed a puppet regime under the Nazis and murdered Serbs, Jews, and Roma peoples in concentration camps such as Jasenovac. The poem here gives account of some of the laws used against the population - the Aryan laws which banned the use of Cyrillic, and 'insults to Croatian honour'. |
