| Notes | Written in response to massacre in Srebrenica, July 1995, in which more than 8,000 Bosniak Muslim men and boys were killed. This genocide took place during the Bosnian War. Notably, this version does not include the paratext that usually accompanies this poem and reads ' ar thitim Shrebrenica, 11ú Iúil 1995'. The poem also refers briefly to sectarianism, and implicitly to the 'Troubles' in Northern Ireland. There are many references to Irish folklore in this poem. |
